What a JPG gives the machine

A JPG is a grid of pixels that has been compressed by throwing information away, and it has no transparency at all — every logo arrives sitting on a background, usually white. It is what a camera, a phone and most web pages hand you, so it is the file most people actually have.

What goes wrong with a JPG

Do this first

If anyone still has the original — the PNG, the PDF, the Illustrator file — ask for it before you start. A JPG is a copy of a copy, and each of those steps took away something no tool can put back.

Which file comes out

Pick the one your machine reads — DST, PES, JEF, VP3, EXP or XXX — or take the SVG, which is the drawing itself. The same stitches come out in all of them, so changing machine is a different download, not a new job.

Can I convert a JPG to DST?
Yes. Drop the JPG in the workshop, set the width in millimetres, and download the DST — or PES, JEF, VP3, EXP, XXX or SVG. You see every stitch before you pay.
Is a JPG worse than a PNG for embroidery?
Yes, for two reasons: the compression leaves noise in every flat colour, and a JPG has no transparency, so the background comes with it. It still works — it just needs a cleaner mark to start from.
Can I embroider a photograph?
No, and no tool can. Thread comes in whole colours; a photograph is built from the shades between them. A logo, a badge or lettering is what embroidery is for.

Nobody corrects the file afterwards. What is on screen is what the machine gets, and it is worked out in seconds.
