How the file is built

A PES file has a PEC file inside it. PEC holds the stitches, the threads and the thumbnail; PES is the wrapper around it. Our writer builds the PEC first and wraps it, because that is the part the machine actually reads.

Colours

Brother machines know 64 fixed thread numbers. Every colour is matched to the nearest of those, so the shade on screen is the shade the machine will name – not a new one.

What goes wrong with a PES file

• A PES file is a container, and the part the machine sews from is called PEC. Every Brother and Babylock machine reads the PEC block and ignores the rest.
• Two colours that sit close together can land on the same one of the 64 numbers. The machine would read those two blocks as one colour and a stop would vanish – so a number that is already taken is skipped, and the next nearest is used.
• We write the short container form. It is what the machine reads; it is not a drawing to keep editing in PE-Design afterwards.

If your machine is not listed

Use DST. Every commercial machine reads it, and most home machines will too – it is the format the trade falls back on. The stitches are identical in all seven; only the wrapper differs, so «which format?» is a question about your machine and never about quality.
